AMSTERDAM – As Amsterdam and 11 other Dutch cities gear up for Startup24, a closer look at the agenda reveals that the event is neither 24 hours long nor has 24 total hours of programming.
The two-day conference, on 10-11 November, is aimed at inspiring unmotivated Dutch students about the joy of the entrepreneurial lifestyle, but seems to have no relationship to its catchy name.
Startup24 begins at 16:00 on Friday, and ends at 1:00, some eight hours later.
Organizer Mark Dijkman from Startup24 explained, “Look, as you see in our schedule ‘the clock stops’ at 16:00 on Saturday.’ When asked why the clock stopped then since the event continues for three more hours, Dijkman got testy. ‘Look, the clock stopped. And minus the six hours that we don’t count between 1am and 7am, it was exactly 24 hours. At least we got Prince Constantijn!’
